Sunni forces losing patience with U.S

BAGHDAD - U.S.-backed Sunni volunteer forces, which have played a vital role in reducing violence in Iraq, are increasingly frustrated with the American military and the Iraqi government over what they see as a lack of recognition of their growing political clout and insufficient U.S. support.
Since Feb. 8, thousands of fighters in restive Diyala province have left their posts in order to pressure the government and its American backers to replace the province's Shiite police chief. On Wednesday, their leaders warned that they would disband completely if their demands were not met. In Babil province, south of Baghdad, fighters have refused to man their checkpoints after U.S. soldiers killed several comrades in mid-February in circumstances that remain in dispute.
Some force leaders and ground commanders also reject a U.S.-initiated plan that they say offers too few Sunni fighters the opportunity to join Iraq's army and police, and warn that low salaries and late payments are pushing experienced members to quit.

Michael Jackson faces forced sale of Neverland

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Michael Jackson's famed Neverland Valley Ranch in California will be foreclosed and sold on March 19 unless the pop star pays a balance of nearly $25 million, property records showed on Tuesday.

FoxNews.com celebrity columnist Roger Friedman reported on the Web site (www.foxnews.com) that Jackson has been formally apprised of the foreclosure and that legal documents have also been filed with theSanta Barbara County Recorder's office.

"You are in default of a deed of trust ...," Jackson was told in the five-page filing, according to a copy of the document published by FoxNews.com. "Unless you take action to protect your property it may be sold at a public sale."

According to the documents, if Jackson fails to pay the outstanding balance, estimated at $24.5 million, Neverland would be sold to the highest bidder at a public auction on the courthouse steps.

The county recorder's Web site shows that a Notice of Trustees Sale was filed against Neverland Valley Ranch on Monday but no further details were available and a spokeswoman for the office declined to comment.

Jackson's publicist, Raymone Bain, did not return calls seeking comment on the foreclosure notice.

The onetime "King of Pop" has owned the 2,800-acre (1,133-ha) ranch in the rolling foothills above the California coast since 1988, naming it after the whimsical island where children never grow up in J.M. Barrie's Peter Pan stories.

Jackson, 49, famously outfitted the property with a private zoo and amusement park and festooned it with statues of Peter Pan characters.

But the reclusive, Grammy-winning singer has spent little time at Neverland since his June, 2005 acquittal on charges that he sexually molested a young boy there after plying him with alcohol.

In 2006 state authorities ordered the property shuttered and fined Jackson for failing to pay his employees or maintain proper insurance, and the zoo animals have since reportedly been removed.

Jackson, who proclaimed himself "King of Pop" in the 1980s and scored one of the top-selling pop albums of all time in "Thriller," has since seen his fame as an entertainer eclipsed by the sometimes bizarre details of his personal life.

The Shop's Joke Of The Day

A wife was making a breakfast of fried eggs for her husband.

Suddenly, her husband burst into the kitchen.

'Careful,' he said, 'CAREFUL! Put in some more butter! Oh my GOD! You're cooking too many at once. TOO MANY! Turn them! TURN THEM NOW! We need more butter. Oh my GOD! WHERE are we going to get MORE BUTTER? They're going to STICK! Careful. CAREFUL! I said be CAREFUL! You NEVER listen to me when you're cooking! Never! Turn them! Hurry up! Are you CRAZY? Have you LOST your mind? Don't forget to salt them. You know you always forget to salt them. Use the salt. USE THE SALT! THE SALT!'

The wife stared at him. 'What in the world is wrong with you? You think I don't know how to fry a couple of eggs?'

The husband calmly replied, 'I just wanted to show you what it feels like when I'm driving.'

Diddy makes history with "Raisin"

Diddy makes history with "Raisin"

By Chris Richburg

Sean "Diddy" Combs may wear many hats, but the rap mogul is determined to carve a niche for himself as a versatile actor, while exposing TV viewers to something new in the small screen adaptation of Lorraine Hansberry’s play A Raisin in the Sun.

The drama, which is set in 1950s Chicago, focuses on the Younger family as they await a $10,000 insurance check. Combs plays Walter Lee Younger, a man with big dreams of using the money to help start his own business, but encounters conflict with his widowed mother, Lena (Phylicia Rashad), ambitious sister, Beneatha (Sanaa Lathan) and wife, Ruth (Audra McDonald).

For the cast, the film touches on universal themes that transcend any one issue.

"I would say it’s a love story," Combs told AllHipHop.com. "It’s the love of family first. No matter what even after everything is lost, you’re still so blessed."

The film generated a strong buzz after it became the first broadcast network movie to be screened at the Sundance Film Festival.

The small screen version of A Raisin in the Sun marks the latest adaptation of the 1959 production, which is noted for being the first play written by an African-American female playwright to be produced on Broadway.

Combs’ role was originally made famous by Sidney Poitier, who played the character of Walter Lee in a 1961 film version of A Raisin in the Sun.

The newest version of A Raisin in the Sun features the cast of the critically-acclaimed 2004 Broadway revival, which garnered a Tony award for Rashad and McDonald.

Although filling Poitier’s shoes provided a challenges, Combs was adamant about demonstrating his commitment to the role.

"I had met with a couple of people and let them know how serious I was about it," said the mogul, who earned respect from critics and cast mates despite mixed reviews for his stage performance. "I didn’t have to oversell myself. My work spoke for itself. You know, my work ethic on just preparing kind of spoke for itself on the play."

With Combs involved, the mogul’s co-star John Stamos feels the film will attract those who may not have read or seen the play.

A Raisin in the Sun director Kenny Leon said he sees the potential for his film to motivate viewers to learn about other writers.

"Some folk have never heard of Lorraine Hansberry. Some people come to see Sean Combs and they get introduced to Walter Lee Younger. They get introduced to Lorraine Hansberry," he said. "That might make them want to go and read about other writers of the time period. It might want to make them learn more about Langston Hughes and James Baldwin and all these folks who were like artistic friends and colleagues. No one gets killed. It’s all about love. It’s about the strength of the family and just trying to portray the African American male in a positive light."

A Raisin in the Sun airs at 8 p.m. ET tonight (Feb. 25) on ABC.

NC State U study connects Hip-Hop/Sexism
By Tai Saint Louis
A study conducted by two political science professors at North Carolina State University concluded that though a connection exists between Hip-Hop music and sexism, blaming the music for the sexist attitudes of college students is taking the connection a step too far.

Dr. Michael Cobb, assistant professor of political science, and Dr. Bill Boettcher, associate professor of political science, conducted a study entitled "Ambivalent Sexism and Misogynistic Rap Music: Does Exposure to Eminem Increase Sexism?"

Male and female NCSU students recruited to participate in the study were divided into three groups.

Men in the first group, exposed to overtly sexist Hip-Hop lyrics, via Eminem's "Kill You," and the second group, exposed to Beastie Boys' "Sabotage," a song without any misogynistic lyrics, expressed stronger sexist attitudes after exposure to the music than those in the control group, which was not exposed to rap music at all.

"It's like hearing the word 'chocolate' and suddenly having a craving for a candy bar," says Dr. Cobb. "Sexism is imbedded in the culture we live in and hearing rap music can spontaneously activate pre-existing awareness of sexist beliefs. Rap music, fairly or unfairly, has become associated with misogyny, and even minimal exposure to it can automatically activate these mental associations and increase their application, at least temporarily.

"At worst, we could conclude that rap music might exacerbate pre-existing tendencies," he continued, "but so too can other genres of music and varied forms of entertainment. There is not much evidence in our study to support an argument in favor of censorship."

While men were more sexist across all three groups, the study found that even though their responses to "Sabotage" were similar to that of their male counterparts, women had a lower tolerance to sexism when exposed to "Kill You."

According to Cobb, self-awareness motivates women to react to the lyrics blatantly targeting them.

"In the absence of explicitly sexist language, the negative associations with rap music are still being primed," explains Cobb. "In this case, however, the receiver is unaware that this process is taking place and therefore to inhibit their reactions. When women listened to Eminem, however, the blatant misogyny is startling to them and it triggers a more careful interpretation and rejection of the premises in the song. Males, who are not the targets, are not as motivated to recognize the mechanisms at work."

Cobb and Boettcher where satisfied with the results of the study, believing that the fact that no-sexist lyrics still evoked sexist responses proves their theory that rap music does not cause sexism.

They agreed that the results are cause for concern, but feel that the concern would be best address through research of the relationship between the origins of music and the expressed attitudes.

The Shop's Joke of the day

The Barber
A man was getting a haircut prior to a trip to Rome. He mentioned the trip to the barber who responded, "Rome? Why would anyone want to go there? It's crowded, dirty and full of Italians. You're crazy to go to Rome. So, how are you getting there?"
"We're taking TWA," was the reply. "We got a great rate!"
"TWA?" exclaimed the barber. "That's a terrible airline. Their planes are old, their flight attendants are rude, and they're always late. So, where are you staying in Rome?"
"We'll be at the downtown International Marriott."
"That dump! That's the worst hotel in the city. The rooms are small, the service is surly and they're overpriced. So, whatcha doing when you get there?"
"We're going to go to see the Vatican and we hope to see the Pope."
"That's rich," laughed the barber. "You and a million other people trying to see him. He'll look the size of an ant. Boy, good luck on this lousy trip of yours. You're going to need it."
A month later, the man again came in for his regular haircut. The barber asked him about his trip to Rome.
"It was wonderful," explained the man, "not only were we on time in one of TWA's brand new planes, but it was overbooked and they bumped us up to first class. The food and wine were wonderful, and I had a beautiful 28 year old stewardess who waited on me hand and foot. And the hotel - it was great! They'd just finished a $25 million remodeling job and now it's the finest hotel in the city. They, too, were overbooked, so they apologized and gave us the presidential suite at no extra charge!"
"Well," muttered the barber, "I know you didn't get to see the Pope."
"Actually, we were quite lucky, for as we toured the Vatican, a Swiss Guard tapped me on the shoulder and explained that the Pope likes to personally meet some of the visitors, and if I'd be so kind as to step into his private room and wait, the pope would personally greet me. Sure enough, five minutes later the Pope walked through the door and shook my hand! I knelt down and he spoke to me."
"Really?" asked the Barber. "What'd he say?"
"He said, 'Where'd you get the lousy haircut?'"

The Shop's Joke of the day

A man enters a barbershop for a shave. While the barber is foaming him up, he mentions the problem he has getting a close shave around his cheeks.

"I have just the thing," says the barber taking a small wooden ball from a nearby drawer. "Just place this between your cheek and gum."

The client places the ball in his mouth and proceeds with the closest shave the man has ever experienced.

After a few strokes, the client asks in garbled speech "And what if I swallow it?"

"No problem" says the barber. "Just bring it back tomorrow like everyone else does!"

LOS ANGELES - Gary Coleman is a not-so-newlywed. The former "Diff'rent Strokes" star married 22-year-old Shannon Price in August on a mountaintop in Nevada, but they have been keeping their vows under wraps, the pair told "Inside Edition."

"Nobody was around but the minister, preacher, the videographers, the photographer, the helicopter pilot and us," Coleman, 40, said on Tuesday's broadcast of the program.

Coleman met Price on the set of the 2006 comedy "Church Ball." Price said it was she who proposed to Coleman, but that he surprised her on her birthday by whisking her to a mountaintop in the Valley of Fire State Park to exchange vows.

She said they kept their wedding secret because she wanted to keep being seen as her own person.

"I just want my own identity as well because I don't want to be known as Gary Coleman's wife," she said.

Coleman played down their age differences, saying "I don't have issues with age, I have issues with intelligence ... She's more intelligent than I am and that's what matters to me."

Price, who is 5-foot-7, and Coleman, who is 4-foot-8, also played down their height gap.

"That doesn't really matter to me," she said. "He was 10 feet tall to me because he was sweet and I really liked his personality."

New Yankee Stadium over Budget!!

NEW YORK (AP) -- The granite and limestone exterior is designed to evoke the original 1923 Yankee Stadium, before it was remade in the 1970s.

But the new stadium's interior will offer amenities unheard of in Babe Ruth's day -- or in Reggie Jackson's.

Scheduled to welcome fans on opening day 2009, the new stadium will have party suites, a members-only restaurant, a martini bar and a price tag to match all the luxury -- $1.3 billion, up from a $1 billion estimate last year, the Yankees said Thursday.

Man, Woman, Sleeping Compartment

A man and a woman who have never met before find themselves in the same sleeping carriage of a train.
After the initial embarrassment they both go to sleep, the woman on the top bunk, the man on the lower.
In the middle of the night the woman leans over, wakes the man and says, "I'm sorry to bother you, but I'm awfully cold and I was wondering if you could possibly get me another blanket."
The man leans out and, with a glint in his eye, says, "I've got a better idea... just for tonight, let's pretend we're married."
The woman thinks for a moment. "Why not," she giggles.
"Great," he replies, "Get your own damn blanket!"

Student Not Allowed on Campus Due to Haircut

Officials with the Lafayette Parish School Board say a 14 year old boy who is sporting an unusual haircut will not be allowed to return to school until he conforms to board policy. But as it turns out the haircut wasn't the boys idea it was his mothers way of trying to enforce discipline.
"I cut his hair as a discipline tool. It's a bad haircut for bad behavior." That's what Laura Jones says her son Deontraye McLennan needs and deserves. Especially after he brought home a report card that she says is just as bad as his haircut.
The haircut was so bad, Deontraye decided to skip school because he was embarrassed. But the defiant 14 year-old didn't just go home. He hitchhiked from Carencro to Palmetto which is about 35 miles away.
He even bought a stolen scooter from a stranger to help him make the trip to a family member's house. But once his mom found him safe and sound Jones went to Carencro middle school to see about Deontraye skipping class.
And that's when Jones says administrators told her that this is unacceptable and action would be taken against the haircut. Since Jones was told her son's haircut was extreme, she was directed to the school's handbook and administrators say what's in the handbook will be strictly enforced.
According to the handbook, designs shaven into the head are not permitted. Deputy Superintendent Katherine Landry says the student will not be allowed in school until he complies.
Regardless of what happens from this point, Deontraye says the embarrassing haircut has changed his attitude. School Board Leaders say the Principal's actions were correct in handling the situation.
Right now, the case is being appealed to interim Superintendent Brunel Lemoine.
Damn he should have come to the shop to get fixed up after she did that mess...
One question I'd ask the kid though... If he had money to buy a stolen scooter why didn't he just pay a barber to fix his hair? Now I know why his ass got bad grades in school...

Benzino & Dave Mays Launch New Hip Hop Mag

MONSTA magazine is a new venture from the former Source magazine owners Dave Mays and Raymond "Benzino" Scott. Benzino states that MONSTA is poised to crush the competition. Apparently Dasun Allah, former Source EIC and writer for the Star & Buc Wild Morning Show, is also involved with the development of MONSTA.

"We're coming right after The Source, XXL, Vibe and Complex,". "I don't even know if [Complex] is selling that many magazines, but them too. Give us one year and believe me we'll be knocking The Source, XXL, Vibe and all of the other mags out the box." -Raymond Scott

The debut issue of MONSTA hits newsstands on February 12.
We'll see if Eminem or G-Unit gets featured in any of the future issues... ::chuckles::

Game Cops Plea Deal (Gets 4 Months)

Rather than fight the felony gun charges that he was hit with last year, platinum rapper The Game has opted to face the music in a Los Angeles jail.
The West Coast rapper (born Jayceon Taylor) is being accused of making criminal threats, possessing a firearm in a school zone, and exhibiting a firearm in the presence of an officer after allegedly getting into a fight during a pick-up game of basketball.
The alleged incident went down at South L.A.'s Rita Walters Educational Learning Complex on February 24 of last year. The Game pled not guilty to all charges in September and was looking at five years if convicted.
Now The Game has changed his mind, opting to save his money instead of fight the case. Game says that he's copping to guilt in court, even though he's really innocent.

"The crazy part about this is that I've had guns before in my life," he explained. "But this time I didn't have a gun. And because one person said I had a gun and coaxed his homies into saying that I had a gun, I'm in a predicament where I'm asking, Do I want to spend another million dollars to fight this trial so who knows what jury's gonna come in and say I'm guilty? Or do I want to save my money, go sit down for four months and accept this felony they're trying to give me for no reason?"

Pimp C's Death Caused By Cough Syrup

The Los Angeles County Coroner’s office has revealed that UGK member Chad “Pimp C.” Butler’s death was caused by prescription cough syrup and a preexisting sleeping condition.

Assistant chief coroner Ed Winter said that the rapper did not overdose, but died from ingesting Promethazine and Codeine, which is frequently mixed with flavored candy and mixed to make a drink known as “sizzurp.”

The concoction also took the lives of legendary Houston DJ, DJ Screw in 2000 and rapper Big Moe, who died of a heart attack in 2007.

Winter also said Pimp C. suffered from sleep apnea, a common sleeping disorder that blocks the air passages during sleep.

"Sleep apnea, you stop breathing," Winter told The Houston Chronicle. "Coupled with a medication that suppresses your respiratory abilities, you end up with an accidental death."

Pimp C, 33, was found dead in his Los Angeles hotel room on December 4, 2007.

According to the National Institute on Drug Abuse, the abuse of prescription cough medicine is on the rise, especially in young adults.

As many as one in every 14 high school seniors have said that they used cold medicine “fairly recently” to get high.

“It’s bad that kids are buying cough syrup and using it this way — it’s not good for them,” said John P. Walters, director of the White House Office of National Drug Control Policy.

UGK group member Bun B. will give his first performance since Pimp C’s death this Friday (February 8) at the Warehouse in Houston, Texas.

Eddie Murphy sells his California home for $6.1 million

Actor Eddie Murphy has sold his Californian home for a reported $6.1m.

The ‘Nutty Professor’ star shared the 10-bedroom mansion in Granite Bay, California, with his ex-wife Nicole, who filed for divorce in 2005 after 12 years of marriage.

The couple - who purchased the property in 1998 - used it as a holiday home with their five children Bria, 19, Miles, 16, Shane Audra, 14, Zola Ivy, 9, and six-year-old Bella Zahra.

It features a home theater with an arcade, tennis court, gymnasium, swimming pool, spa and outdoor kitchen complete with a barbecue.

The 11,000 sq ft mansion has views of the nearby Folsom Lake, and is situated on 2.5 acres of land.

As well as 10 bedrooms, the property comes with a detached 5,200 sq ft guest house which has two additional suites.

Nicole - who legally separated from Eddie in October 2006 and is now rumoured to be dating American football star Michael Strahan - has also reportedly put her own house, located in Calabases, California, up for sale for nearly $10 million.

The sale comes shortly after Eddie split from ‘wife’ Tracey Edmonds. The couple ‘married’ in a ceremony on a private island near Bora Bora, but split two weeks later before they made their union legal in the US.

The 46-year-old actor also has a 17-year-old son, Christian, from his relationship with Tamara Hood, and an eight-month-old daughter, Angel Iris, with Spice Girls star Mel B.

50 Cent Done With Paris?

Hrmm seems as though 50 Cent has had enough of the Hotel Hairess. During his performance at the Paris Hilton-hosted pre-Super Bowl party for 944 magazine, 50 Cent gave a shout out to Paris, who then started singing in the front row.

When the princess decided to get onstage and dance, the rapper's crew and stagehands quickly instructed her to "Get the f**k off the stage." She started to cry and tried to plead with the party's production staff to let her dance, whining, "But it's my party!" I wonder if Ciara had anything to do with that public display of aggression...
